Robert
Hargrove Wins 2003
Century Championship
Robert Hargrove capped off an incredible year by coming from the back of the pack after Saturday’s first day weigh in to capture the September 25 and 26 championship held on Lake Ray Hubbard. Weighing in 4.38 lbs on Saturday was uncommon for Robert, but he switched into high gear on Sunday bringing in a five-fish limit for 16.42 lbs to take the crown. This in a year which saw Robert win 3 of 11 tournaments and he placed no less than 6th in all of our other events. Robert caught the majority of his fish on a white spinnerbait, teamed with All Star rods, Stren Magnathin line and Shimano reels. Robert’s effort was rewarded to the tune of $436. Great year Robert!
Tommy Yates took second place with 17.38 lbs using the same bait—a white spinnerbait for a nice payday of $280.
Third place went to Century President, Duane Climer, who also rebounded from a slow start on Saturday of only 1 fish for 2.78 lbs to finish with 5 fish Sunday for 14.48 lbs, which also included the Big Bass on Sunday at 5.70 lbs. Duane earned a total of $317 for 3rd place and Big Bass.
Fourth Place finisher and 2004 Century President, Nick Carroccio, stumbled on Sunday after weighing in 4 fish on Saturday, but his lone fish Sunday for 5.38 lbs narrowly missed Big Bass honors. Nick pocketed $175 for the 4th place finish.
Chuck Middleton captured 5th place after also stumbling on Sunday. Chuck had the lead after the first day with a five-fish limit for 14.18 lbs but couldn’t manage a keeper on Sunday for the $157 5th place money.
Danny Yates took 6th
place as well as Big Bass on Saturday at 6.17 lbs for a total weight of 13.65
lbs and a total payday of $230.
