Robert Hargrove Conquers Blustery Tyler Tournament
Perennial
Angler of the Year, Robert Hargrove, bested a field of 25 other anglers as well
as the weather at our February 16 tournament held on Lake Tyler.
Robert came to the weigh-in with a limit weighing in at 14.29 lbs during
a tournament which saw temperatures in the low 60s during Saturday’s practice
accompanied by periods of heavy rain and temperatures on Sunday that hovered
around 38º and strong blustery winds. Robert’s
fish came from brush piles and docks in 6-10 feet of water on trick worms rigged
chicken style. Robert was awarded
$290 which included $58 for his half of the heavy boat pot.
Great job Robert!
I
was lucky enough to capture 2nd place fishing from the back of
Robert’s boat with 4 fish for 13.91 lbs.
Try as I might my 5th fish eluded me.
It is always a pleasure to fish with Robert, not only for the camaraderie,
but also for the deer sausage always in his ice chest.
We had a great time and ate good, too!
For my 2nd place effort I garnered a check for $246 which
included my half of the heavy boat weight.
Philip Webb took 3rd place
during the adverse weather on Sunday with a 5-fish limit for 10.33 and a check
for $108. The majority of
Philip’s fine catch came from drop-shotting super fluke juniors in brush
piles. Philip has really mastered
this light line technique and I know Philip’s partner for the day, Keith
Green, got a valuable and informative lesson.
