It seemed like everyone must have had cabin fever from the looks of our last bass club meeting and turnout for this tournament. We were happy to see several new and old faces at our Wednesday night meeting and 32 anglers signed up to fish the warm waters of Brandy Branch.
Brannon was not the long-shot on Sunday but rather one of the favorites to win. Nothing short of that, Brannon Long brought five keeper fish to the scales weighing 19.04lbs. With several different patterns to chase, Brannon focused on the outside edge of deep grass-lines to catch all his bass. Early, he caught one of his keepers ripping a 1oz SPITNFIRE Jig through the grass. He then slowed down and used a Lake Fork Tackle Hyper Stick in 15-20 feet of water to finish out his 5 bass limit. Brannon earned $330 for his 1st place victory.
Not to be outdone, Ken Caldwell went for the cash rather than the victory. Ken had a profitable day on the water while taking 2nd place, big bass and heavy stringer. Ken’s healthy bag of bass weighed in at 17.12lbs. Speaking of healthy, Ken landed the big bass of tournament weighing 5.32lbs. He pockets a total of $461. Coy Frazier also won $75 for his help adding to the heavy stringer total of 23.50lbs.
For the second tournament in a row, Jon Harshbarger only brings 4 keepers to the scales but still gets a check. Jon’s stringer weighed 12.57lbs locking up 3rd place. Jon will use his $142 in earnings to help him make another Ranger boat payment.
Even though Dan had a full stringer of 5 keepers, the 12.52lbs still fell 2/100 of an ounce short of Jon Harshbarger’s total of 12.57lbs. Dan focused on beading fish on the hot water side of the lake to fill his bag. He used a variety of Texas rigged baits to entice his fish to bite. Dan brings home $104 for his 4th place finish.
Philip Webb was the first place out of the money at our last tournament on Palestine so he used his free entry at Brandy Branch. He seemed happy to finish up one place better (5th place) this month grabbing a check worth $76. Philip’s 4 keepers weighed 11lbs even.
The final payday went to Jason Geesey in 6th place. Jason brought 5 keepers to the weigh-in totaling 9.45lbs. Jason pockets $57 for his finish.
Finally, first place out of the money, winning a free entry into the next tournament goes to guest fisherman Cole Porter for catching 3 fish weighing 7.23lbs.
We hope to have the same turnout or better for our next tournament on a little lake that has produced some big stringers for some Century Bass Club members… Lake Winnsboro is sure to bring some surprises on March 28th. See you there.
