Craig Dowis on top at Rayburn
Past Century President, Craig Dowis, all but lapped the field on the first
day of the January 29 and 30 tournament held on Big Sam. Craig’s first day limit
of 19.01 lbs caught slow rolling a terminator spinner bait in 4' to 8' of water
in the “Canyon’s” area set the tone for his first place finish. This limit
included the Big Bass on Saturday of 6.59 lbs. Craig followed up with 3 keepers
on Sunday for 6.72 lbs and a 2-day total of 25.73 lbs to walk away with the 1st
place cash of $298 as well as $100 for Saturday’s Big Bass honors.
Congratulations Craig!
Second place at Century’s first tournament of 2005 went to Dwayne Shamburger who
fished a Reactions Innovations “Creature” Bait in 4' to 9' of water. Dwayne
brought 4 fish to the scales Saturday for 12.93 lbs, anchored by a nice 5.95
pounder. With Sunday’s tougher conditions, Dwayne followed up with 3 more fish @
7.54 lbs for a total of 20.47 lbs and his 2nd place finish worth $185. Way to go
Dwayne!
Century’s 2004 Angler of the Year and the 2004 N.E. BASS Federation’s top
angler, Robert Hargrove, nailed down 3rd place with 7 fish over 2 days for 14.80
lbs. Robert’s infamous chicken-rigged Zoom green pumpkin trick worm fished in
water less than 8' was responsible for his $113 3rd place win.
Johnny Walker captured the final check and 4th place with 5 fish during the 2
days of competition for 13.29 lbs using a handful of baits and techniques. A
slow rolled spinner bait, a rattle trap, and a watermelon/purple chicken-rigged
trick worm all played a part in his success.
Club President, Nick Carroccio, nabbed Sunday’s Big Bas honors and $100 for a
nice 4.43 lber. The winner of the 1st place out of the money tackle pack was
“Sheriff” Danny Yates and the free entry drawing was won by Chuck Middleton.
There were 64 bass weighed and released alive for a total of 172.57 lbs and a
2.70 average.
