Mark Calhoun Wins Another Cedar Creek Title
Mark
Calhoun captured his first Century victory at Cedar Creek last June and he
reclaimed his title this year with a five fish limit weighing 15.12 pounds and a
check for $353.00.
29
anglers brought 62 fish to the scales for a 160.59 pounds for a 2.59 average.
The lake was at normal level and it’s great to see the fishing getting better
this year. Last year at this tournament we only had one limit weighed in and the
Big Bass was 5.25 pounds. In comparison, this year we had four limits weighed in
and the Big Bass stretched the scale to 7.18 pounds. So things do appear to be
looking up. With temperatures reaching nearly 95 degrees, and very little wind,
everyone did a great job of caring for their catch and as a consequence we only
lost fish and the other 60 fish looked to be in great shape.
Coy
Frazier had a great weekend. He won the BASS Federation tournament on Saturday
with a limit weighing 16.78 pounds and had the day’s Big Bass. He then came
out on Sunday and finished 2nd in our tournament with three fish
weighing 13.73 including one at 7.18 pounds for Big Bass for a second time in as
many days. Coy teamed up with Vince Kiesling (three fish/6.84 pounds) to capture
heavy boat honors with a combined weight of 20.57 pounds.
who also weighed in three fish at 6.84 pounds. Coy’s efforts paid him
$389.00.
Third
place went to David Magers who earned $132.00 for his four fish weighing $12.68
pounds. John Pierce captured fourth place with a five fish limit that weighed
12.57 pounds and paid $97.00. Jon Harshbarger also had five fish limit and was
close behind in fifth place with 11.84 pounds and earned $71.00. Paul Zukosky
also brought a limit to the scales, but his five fish weighed 10.18 pounds and
just out of the money in sixth place.
The
standings for our Angler of the Year title and Top Six team are close, but
Robert Hargrove has taken his place at the top of the standing with 390 points.
Close behind in tie for 2nd place are Coy Frazier and Bill Kessler
with 383 points followed by Randy Kvapil and Paul Zukosky who are in another tie
at 377. I follow them with 369 points, and Mike Adam is close behind with 364
points. There are 19 anglers with over 300 points and each one has a legitimate
shot at making our Top Six team. The State Tournament will again be at the
scenic and fertile Lake Amistad down on the Texas, Mexico border.
Century
members also hold the top three spots in the BASS Federation Northeast Region.
They are Randy Kvapil followed by Robert Hargrove and Coy Frazier. Mike Adam is
in 6th place. Century Bass Club has been well represented with our
members making up half of the 52 who have fished the regional events.
Our
next tournament will be at Sam Rayburn July 27th and 28th.
We will be going out of the Twin Dykes ramp for this event. Call Bass Buster Inn
for rooms at 409-698-3002.
I
also want to take a moment pass along condolences to Robert Hargrove on behalf
of the entire Century Bass Club. Robert’s mother passed away on Sunday June 16th
and was buried the following Thursday on June 20th. Robert wanted
everyone to know he genuinely appreciated the cards, flowers and condolences
from so many of our club members.
