Winds right for Conover at Winnsboro

For the second month in a row, Century Bass Club had 30+ anglers ready to fish, and Lake Winnsboro was the target attraction. This little lake has produced winning stringers over 22+lbs for Century winners in 2007 and 2009. Not many people would have thought 2010 would be any different, and it wasn’t…
The name Winnsboro says it all. Winds over 15mph for most of the day and gusts over 20mph made it more challenging than most wanted. Win was on Randy’s mind all day while catching the biggest Century Bass Club stringer so far in 2010. Randy fished a pre-spawn/staging pattern to catch his 5 fish bag. A 5.89lb kicker fish helped his limit top the scales at 23.88 lbs. He used a trick worm around main lake and secondary points to load the boat. $330 will be awarded to Randy for this 1st place victory.
I guess Ken Caldwell tried the dash for the cash again this month but fell a little short. For the second tournament in a row Ken finishes in 2nd place. 20.49lbs filled his weigh-in bag and $236 will fill his pockets for this nice stringer. Ken’s fish came from shallow water while using a brush hog and a 4” worm.
Jason Geesey located a good limit of fish weighing in at 19.98lbs to take 3rd place. A black & blue jig pitched to gator grass in the back of pockets seemed to be the key to his success. As a non-boater, Mike Dysput brought 4 fish to the scales weighing 11.15lbs to help bring home the heavy boat stringer for a combined weight of 30.13lbs. Jason and Mike each earned $75 for their team effort and Jason banks an additional $142 for his 3rd place finish.
4th place went to Dan Phifer with a 5 fish limit on the scales at 19.25lbs. He also used a black & blue jig to catch most of his bass. Fishing mouths of pockets was the pattern Dan found to win $104.
Bill Cox flipped gator grass mats with a brush hog to secure 5th place. His best 5 keepers weighed 14.84lbs. Bill wins $76.
Flukes were Coy’s trick to land a 7.48lb’er which captured big bass for the tournament and anchors his 3 fish limit weighing a total of 12.71lbs. Coy received $150 for big bass and $57 for grabbing the final paycheck for 6th place.
Jeff Prudhomme comes up about a half a pound short from making a check but was awarded a free entry into the next tournament for the 1st place out of the money, 7th place.
