Hughey Grabs 1st at Grapevine
Wally Hughey took top honors at Century’s final regular tournament of 2004 at
Lake Grapevine on October 10 with 2 fish totaling 6.09 lbs. On a drizzly day,
Wally purportedly used a drop shot rig around tire reefs to score the 1st place
cash of $284 as well as $100 for big bass for the only fish weighed in over
Grapevine’s slot at 5.20 lbs. Congratulations Wally!
Second place went to Mike Stewart with a limit of under the slot fish for 5.23
lbs and $175. Mike also split heavy boat weight with his partner, Randy Short,
who had 3 fish for 2.89 lbs. Both anglers pocketed $50 for the heavy boat pot.
Century tournament director, Philip Webb, was 3rd with 5 fish for 5.07 lbs.
Philip’s 3rd place finish was worth $108. The final check was taken by Century
Treasurer, Paul Zukosky, for his limit of 5 fish totaling 5.05 lbs and earned
Paul $63.
There were 45 fish weighed in for a grand total of 52.72 lbs. Although the
weights are very small due to the 14”-18” slot on Grapevine (members were
allowed to weigh in fish between 12”-14” and over 18”) it appears from ramp
chatter that everyone had a great time, caught plenty of fish, and enjoyed the
challenge of fishing on a slot lake.
Jon Harshbarger was the winner of the 1st Place Out of the Money Academy Gift
Card and Coy Frazier was the winner of the free entry drawing.
