Cedar Creek was setup to be a tough tournament for Century Bass Club this month. Recent rains brought some rising water levels and a Bass Champs tournament the day before didn’t help. Our tournament results will provide some insight on how difficult it was to get keepers in the boat.
As for almost any fishing tournament, someone always finds a way to catch them. Dan Phifer brings in 5 keepers to finish in 1st place with 10.08lbs. Dan was the only angler among 31 to weigh-in a 5 fish limit. A Texas rigged Speed Craw helped him earn $286.
In a close 2nd place was John Harshbarger with 4 bass weighing 9.84lbs. John threw the tackle box at them trying to find something that would work. Each of his keepers were caught on different baits, from a c-rig to a trap, and then to flipping docks with a trick worm. His trial and error approach paid off for a check worth $204.
In 3rd place was the Long Haired Country Boy (Joey Deans). Flipping and pitching a Sugar Free, Spit-N-Fire finesse jig got his 3 keepers to weigh-in. 8.20lbs brought him home $123.
Mike Hughs caught 2 keepers for a total weight of 7.68lbs which was enough to grab 4th place. His big bass was caught on a topwater, and then landed one other keeper late in the day on a Flick Shake. $90 will go towards more diapers for his new baby girl.
5.50lbs was the weight Randy Conover managed for 5th place. His 2 keepers came from brush piles worked over with a c-rig to pocket $66.
$50 went to Coy Frazier for catching 2 fish weighing a total of 5.27lbs to secure the final paycheck.
Last but not least, Cory Childress wins a free entry into the next tournament for being the first place out of the money. 4.58lbs was his stringer weight.
Big Bass Honors went to Mike Hughs with a 5.01lb bass worth $130. Very close to winning the 5.00lb even bass pot.
Heavy Boat stringer went to John Harshbarger and Cory Childress with a total combined stringer of 6 bass weighing 14.42lbs. Both will cash a check for $65.
The final tournament of our regular season will land on Lake Lavon during the first weekend in October. A close Top 6 points race and changing temperatures will make for a very exciting finish. Will the bass start their fall feeding or will they continue their summer pattern? Maybe you could figure it out and finish off the year strong.
